What is ICSI?

ICSI or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection is a specialized form of IVF that is used when conventional IVF method fails due to severe male infertility. During regular IVF, many sperms are placed together with an egg hoping for one of the sperm to fertilize the egg. However, in case of ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into the egg and fertilized. We at Neelkanth Hospital, have one of the best IVF and ICSI specialists in Gurgaon, who can help you conceive. ICSI treatment is considered when the male partner has severe infertility, so much so that either the sperm production is too low or for some reason the sperm count in semen is negligible. ICSI is often combined with a technique called TESE, or micro TESE, during which a single sperm is extracted from the testicles for fertilization purpose.

Why ICSI when IVF is available?

ICSI is typically used in cases of severe male infertility, including very low sperm count, abnormally shaped sperm or poor sperm movement. Conventional IVF procedures rely on the good quality of the semen and sperm but if a man’s semen does not have any sperm, even though he is producing sperm, they may be retrieved through testicular sperm extraction or TESE. After TESE, this extracted sperm can be used for fertilization and once the embryo formation is imminent, it can be transferred to the uterus for implantation.

Success rate and Risks

The ICSI process helps fertilize 50 to 80 percent of eggs. Fertilization is not necessarily proof of conception success. Once fertilization happens, the rate of embryo formation is the same as normal IVF. ICSI-IVF comes with all the risks of a regular IVF cycle such as multiple children, genetic abnormalities, etc. once the pregnancy is confirmed, the rest of the pregnancy journey is the same as that of a regular pregnancy. Neelkanth Hospital is a leading multi-speciality hospital in Gurgaon. The hospital has many different specialities, but the main contributors are our fertility clinic and our internal surgery department. Our fertility clinic is run under the guidance of Dr. Himanshu Garg and Dr. Bindu Garg. Neelkanth is one of the best hospitals for ICSI in Gurgaon.

How much does IUI cost?

The cost of IUI varies depending on what type of insurance coverage you have and how much your doctor’s fees are.
IUI is usually less expensive than other fertility treatments, like IVF.
A few states have laws that say health insurance companies must cover some or all of the costs of infertility treatment if you meet certain requirements. But many insurance plans don’t offer any fertility treatment coverage at all.
The minimum ICSI cost in India is Rs. 2, 40, 000 to Rs. 2, 50,000 per cycle.
